April Happenings in Fourth Grade

In reading and writing, fourth graders have been preparing for the ELA state test. The students have been working very hard and are ready for the big day. In math, the students are finishing up with angles and triangles, as well as studying spirals, in preparation for the state test in May.In social studies, students are finishing up the road to the Revolution and are excited about the Old Betpage field trip in late spring.

March Happenings in Fourth Grade

The fourth graders are busy with a geometry unit. They are identifying lines and angles and will be using a protractor to measure angles. In ELA, the students continue to look for text evidence to support their answers and are focusing on editing their writing and critiquing their work. In social studies, the students are continuing their unit of colonial New York. They are also enjoying a unit on electricity in science. They are busy constructing parallel and series circuits, as well as learning how a light bulb works.

February Happenings in Fourth Grade

Fourth grade worked on fractions this month. In social studies fourth graders learned about the New York Colony., In reading, we continued our mystery genre with a Sherlock Holmes reader’s theater. We also wrote our very own mystery stories.

December School Happenings in Fourth Grade

Fourth graders are working diligently to complete their second ARC unit, Animal Adaptations. This has paired perfectly with the ecosystem unit in science. Fourth graders have also finished their long division unit and will be moving on to factors and multiples. This will help prepare them for the impending fraction unit after the holidays. In social studies the students are also finishing their native American unit.

November Happenings in Fourth Grade

In math, fourth grade students are working on multiplication strategies. In science the students are learning about electricity and its different forms and will then work on electrical circuits. In Social Studies, the students are wrapping up their studies on our home state of New York with NY Maps.They are also finishing their narrative stories unit in ELA and working on Power Goals in reading.This will be followed by a nonfiction unit.

The fourth grade class has also been reflecting on what each student is grateful for this holiday season as Thanksgiving nears.Additionally, the class would like to thank the PTA for the Trevor Room.
