January: Empathy

Posted Date: 01/05/26 (09:00 AM)

Dear Families,
Throughout the month of January, our Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) focus will be Empathy. Students will learn how to understand others’ feelings, show care through their actions, and listen with compassion.
You can help reinforce these skills at home by including simple empathy-building moments in your family routine, such as:

  • Talking about feelings—naming emotions your child notices in themselves or others.
  • Practicing active listening—taking turns sharing about your day while the other person listens without interrupting.
  • Modeling kindness—pointing out small acts of care, like helping a sibling or checking in on a friend.
These everyday practices help children build strong relationships and a deeper understanding of others. Thank you for partnering with us in supporting your child’s social and emotional growth!
Warmly,
Erin Dunbar
