On
Friday, November 18, 2005 the East Quogue Elementary School had
a special Jazz Band Benefit Concert to raise money for the victims
of Hurricane Katrina. The evening also included special performances
by the EQ chorus and EQ Glee Club.
The evening
began at 6pm with a silent auction containing donated items from
local community businesses as well as an autographed CD and photographs
from entertainers like Harry Connick, Jr.
A full house
attended the concert and auction and so far, over $8,000 has been
raised. All proceeds will be proudly donated to the Habitat
for Humanity charity. Additionally,
120 backpacks will be sent to a school in Mississippi. Special
thanks go to Penni Russo, East Quogue's instrumental music teacher
and band director for organizing the concert and auction. A number
of other East Quogue teachers and community members were instrumental
in assuring the success of this event.
